$250,000 Pledge from Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Richmond Supports New Sibling Center at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU
(March 16, 2016) – Richmond, VA – Children’s Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce a $250,000 pledge made by Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Richmond (RMHC Richmond) to name the Sibling Center in the new Children’s Pavilion at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR). While patients receive special attention for their health care needs during an appointment, siblings will also enjoy special attention from trained volunteers in the Ronald McDonald House Sibling Center.
In addition to providing the gift over five years, RMHC Richmond will supply the volunteer staff needed to run the Center, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In December 2015, the organization held a toy drive to gather supplies that will be used in the Center like activity books, puzzles, games, and other toys. “Ronald McDonald House Charities sees this relationship with Children’s Hospital Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU truly as a programmatic partnership,” said Kerry Blumberg, Executive Director, RMHC Richmond. “We all share a vision for improving access to care for patients and families, and the Ronald McDonald House Sibling Center will provide a great benefit to families coming to the hospital in the future.”
RMHC Richmond has a long history of supporting families coming to CHoR for patient care, through resources like the Ronald McDonald House® on Monument Avenue and the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms® which are located adjacent to the pediatric intensive care unit for families of the most critically ill patients.
“Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond is committed to reducing the burdens faced by families of children who receive medical care in Richmond,” said Richard McNeil, President, RMHC Richmond Board of Directors. “This partnership with Children’s Hospital Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU provides an opportunity for RMHC Richmond to expand to support families utilizing pediatric outpatient services in our local community.” CHoR’s new Children’s Pavilion will open for patient appointments on March 21st and is the largest, most advanced outpatient facility dedicated to children in the region. The new pavilion will include diagnostic and treatment services for children, bringing together the majority of outpatient pediatric services currently on the MCV campus to one location. The building is designed to meet the unique health care needs of children, and to provide Richmond the best and most coordinated care possible.
