The Jennings family knows what it feels like to have a medical emergency happen to their child. Caroline and David’s son, Charlie, was rushed to VCU Health after getting hit in the head with a golf ball. Caroline described how fortunate they were be familiar with the area where their son was receiving treatment in and to be able run home to recharge.
After this experience, Caroline and David made a commitment to help families who were in similar situations and in need of support. A friend told them about Ronald McDonald House Charities and Caroline and David were eager to get involved. They started preparing dinners for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House and wanted to do even more, so they signed up to become Happy Wheels volunteers. The Happy Wheels program features a hospitality cart that delivers small comforts to families spending long hours at their child’s hospital bedside. It gave Caroline and David the opportunity to hand out snacks, drinks, toys, and activities to families in the Pediatric units of St. Mary’s Hospital who were in a situation that was all too familiar to them. It has given them the opportunity to deliver a moment of joy to families who may not need a place to stay, but need a small comfort and reminder that there are a community of people here to support them.
Caroline and David, we are so honored to have you on our team!
