Hoops for the House

We were honored to be the beneficiaries of Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Hoops for the House fundraiser at University of Richmond. The fundraiser started after several brothers bonded over their family’s personal experiences of staying at a Ronald McDonald House. The tournament included thirty-four 3-on-3 teams and an appearance by the men’s Varsity basketball team.

In less than three weeks, the fraternity recruited more than 100 participants to play basketball in the tournament and raised over $18,000.00 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond.

“Organizations like ours rely on the support of groups like SigEp in order to fulfill our mission. We have loved working with this fraternity- their enthusiasm, kindness, and energy is genuine and infectious. We are so grateful for their commitment to helping the families served by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond,” says Allison Santos, Director of Development.

Funds raised through Hoops for the House will be used to sponsor our Happy Wheels cart, a hospitality cart that gets pushed through the halls of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. The cart will recognize the University of Richmond’s SigEp chapter for their support on an annual basis. Additionally, the fraternity has agreed to host an annual drive to stock the cart with snacks, beverages, toys, and toiletries for families. Three members of SigEp will be chosen each year to make a guest appearance to volunteer to push the cart during one of its rounds. They will deliver the small comforts like a pack of cards, a juice box, a toothbrush, or a coloring book and crayons, to families spending long hours at their child’s hospital bedside.

Thank you for helping us keep families close, SigEp!
