Community Spotlight: Hands On Greater Richmond!

Hands On Greater Richmond is a non-profit organization whose goal is to link individuals, families, teams, and corporate groups in meaningful volunteer opportunities within the Greater Richmond area. This year, on October 15th Hands On Greater Richmond had a day of service for volunteers to participate in one of 80 different projects around the city of Richmond. The project hosted at the Ronald McDonald House Charities this year was to repaint the basement office space to make the room appear brighter and bigger. The volunteers spent the next four hours transforming the office from a loud yellow to a refreshing and light sea foam green! Painting the brick office was no easy task but our volunteers did a fantastic job!

Painting the office was not the only way volunteers could get involved at the Ronald McDonald House Charities that day. Hands On also offered a DIY (Do it yourself) project for volunteers who could not make it to a site. 30 different volunteers purchased and assembled over 250 activity packs for our new Happy Wheels program at the Children’s Pavilion at VCU! Each activity pack contained 2-3 small items like a coloring or puzzle book, cards, crayons, etc. that a child could play with while in the waiting room which provides a great distraction while they wait for their appointment.

We are so grateful for all of the work that both the on-site and off-site volunteers did that day! Thank you all
